BGSU App Redesign

THE BRIEF

For this project, students were to choose a product that needed to be redesigned to improve user experience. As a way to experiment with UI/UX design, I chose the BGSU App, as it lacks good design and features that students and faculty alike desire.

The current app is outdated and not user-friendly. The home screen layout is over run with orange icons and doesn’t contrast well with the image in the background, causing accessibility issues. The sample screens I have provided are just some of the pages that users had issues navigating.

THE SOLUTION

The solution was to start fresh, and align the design with the BGSU brand standards manual. This was created using Figma.

I wanted to include the student ID on the homepage, with the idea that it could be added to Apple and Android Wallets as well. I also wanted to change the style and color of the icons, making sure they contrast well and not stand out too much.

To revamp the dining page, I chose to use sections with large type overlaying images that correlated to each section.

For the athletics page, I designed the calendar to better match a traditional calendar setup.

Lastly, I introduced a new feature: ITS Chat. Currently, students and faculty have to go to a browser to chat with ITS. It would be much more beneficial if the ITS Chat was built into the BGSU App so users could get quick access to the assistance they need.
